Multimodal Platform
The Multimodal Platform profile responds to the need to equip desktop environments with interactive voice and multimodal functionalities, for example addition of voice interaction in desktop and Web applications which already offer interaction modes (e.g. via GUI) or creation of dedicated services such as interactive kiosks.
The main distinguishing features of the Multimodal Platform profile are:
-
Uses the standard language State Chart XML (SCXML) 1.0 for the creation of interactive voice applications.
-
Enables the creation of voice and/or multimodal applications, activating the execution of various parallel tasks and providing a way of synchronizing different modes of multiple interaction (e.g. voice and touch-screen.
-
Enables simple, standards-based interaction via Web browser (or with applications developed by third parties), permitting developers to create an effective multimodal interfaces, without having to create proprietary applications for managing voice technologies or other components.
-
Requires few computational resources, both in CPU and in memory, making it is well-suited for developing applications on compact devices.
