Loquendo Newsletter October 2007
October 2007

Foreword

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the October "Halloween" edition of the Loquendo Newsletter. Here you'll find all you need to know about the latest Loquendo partnerships and products as well as news from the speech industry.

September saw several important events for Loquendo: in Europe, especially important for the DACH region, there was Voice Days in Bonn; for our partners in the CRM and Contact Center sector there was the 2007 Interactive Intelligence Partner Conference, in Chandler, Arizona; the major event for the Italian market was SMAU 2007 in Milan.

SMAU 2007, the 44th international exhibition of Information & Communication Technology, is the principal showcase for the Italian ICT market. From the Telecom Italia stand, Loquendo was pleased to have the opportunity to demonstrate the full range of Loquendo products and solutions to all those attending. This included the new Loquendo voice-controlled Media Center for playing and storing music, films, photos, etc, which met with a very warm and positive response. Attendees were also able to see live demos of many of the voice-enabled services that are powered by Loquendo and already on the market, and these received a great deal of interest from carriers, services providers, public utilities and VoIP players.

The next important date for Italy will be COM-PA 2007, a major event for speech technology in the context of e-Government, taking place in Bologna, December 6-8.

Earlier in the month Loquendo was delighted to be able to announce the release of TomTom ONE XL•S featuring the Loquendo TTS Automotive Solution. More and more drivers worldwide are enjoying simple and safe hands-free operation using speech technology with unparalleled expressiveness and intelligibility.
To try out these solutions for yourself, come and see us at Navigation & Location 2007 in San Jose, December 4-5.

Our article this issue features an interview with Paolo Coppo, Head of Marketing & Business Development at Loquendo, on the highly successful Loquendo TTS Automotive Solution, in which he reveals why every day millions of drivers are making use of Loquendo speech technology. You can also see a second interview with Paolo, taken from Telematics Update Magazine - Issue 41 September 2007, where he reflects on the current state of the speech industry and on Loquendo's position in the market.

On the company side, Loquendo's presence in Spain and Portugal has been reinforced by the appointment of Marco Antonio Piña Sanchez as Iberia Relations Manager.

Then follows our Standards Corner, which looks at recent developments in standards and brings news from the standardization bodies.

The Events diary for autumn includes, for the Italian market, COM-PA 2007, in Bologna, November 6-8; for the wider European market there is Expo Call Center & CRM Solutions 2007 in Madrid, November 7-8, and Expo Call Center & CRM Solutions 2007 in Portugal, November 27-29. Finally, ISS World 2007 in Washington D.C., December 10-12, is the world's largest gathering of players in the Intelligence community.
If you're attending any of these shows, do feel free to drop by our stand and let us show you how Loquendo technology speaks for itself!

We look forward to seeing you there!

  • Another New Draft of IETF MRCP version 2
    October 19, 2007
Another small update to the draft of the Media Resource Control Protocol version 2 (MRCPv2) was recently released by the IETF SpeechSC working group.
The new draft, number 14, contains mainly editorial changes to address all the Working Group Last Call (WGLC) comments, as well as some pre-IESG review comments. Thus the group does not expect any more comments, changes, or new drafts.
This means that the group considers the standard MRCPv2 to be complete and ready to move to a final stage.
